Howdy, I'm Roberto!

We all have our “professional” bios and, while they’re important, I wanted to give you a place to learn more about me as a person. If you’re looking for the professional bio, click here

While most know me as the Founder of Sponsorship Boot Camp, there’s a lot more to me! Yes, I love teaching authors, entrepreneurs, speakers, and non-profits how to get sponsored… but I also believe that life is so much more than the work we do.

So, yes, I want to see you get sponsored!

I want to show you how to get sponsored!

But at the end of the day… I’m an uncle, dreamer, Dark Chocolate & Red Wine lover, and Disney kid at heart! Take a look below to learn more about me!

Favorite Disney Movie(s):

Aladdin, Beauty & The Beast UP!

Favorite Non-Disney Movie(s):

Yes, this needs to be its own question. Nothing compares to Disney! They are… The American President, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, and The Shawshank Redemption.

An experience that made you a stronger person:

Starting my senior year of high school, I had several medical issues. These medical issues led to not being able to graduate with my class and having to get a GED in May 2000. Several people have looked down on me because of it, but I just keep moving forward and faced each day as a fighter. Little did I know that I’d be spending a lot more time at the hospital and in 2009, I was told by doctors that I had one year to live. Kinda scary, huh? I had two choices… give in, or live fully! I chose the latter. Through these medical challenges I had over a dozen surgeries, lost my corporate job, and it is what eventually led me to start my business.

I know, I know... you're probably wondering what would make me start a business if the doctors said I was gonna die, right?

I figured if I only had one year left that I wanted to fully live and I spent that time with my family and close friends, teaching corporate sponsorship to non-profits, and learning to LIVE life. You see, prior to this experience, I was too afraid to take big risks because of all that could possibly go wrong. From this experience I learned that the sooner you make mistakes, the sooner you can learn from them and help others avoid those same mistakes.

If you could have lunch with any five people, who would you choose and why?

Bill Gates, Steve Spielberg, President Obama, Sir Richard Branson, and Jim Carrey. All of these men shared several traits, but the there’s one that I admire most: they were dreamers. They each had a vision that they were inspired by, and surrounded themselves with the right people to get closer to the fulfillment of that vision. Things weren’t always easy, but they chose to persevere. I think we all face some form of failure in life or business, I know I have. I’d like to chat with them about what kept them moving forward and how overcame challenges they faced along the way.

Three women who you admire and respect in business:

Whoa, this is a tough one! I’ll start by saying that I am so grateful for the mentors that I have and have had in my life, most of who were women. I think it’s time that the “experts” and entrepreneurial sectors begin to feature and highlight more women, and I lead by example at my own live events.

The three women that I admire and respect the most in business are Aprille Franks-Hunt aka Epic Aprille, Leslie Knight, and Shelly Rice. I could write a book (and I might one day) about these three women and the impact they (and so many other women) have had on my life and business, so be sure you get to know them. If you’d like to know more about them, send me a message!

If you could be any Disney character, who would you be?

I remember watching “Aladdin” as a kid and dreaming of one day being the singing voice of Aladdin and hoping to one day get to sing the song with Lea Salonga. (Anyone know her? It's still a dream of mine!) Ok, back on track.

I’d go with Princess Tiana. Yes, I know I just said I wanted to be a Disney Princess. Princess Tiana, in my opinion, is one of the stronger Disney Princesses. She’s ambitious, has a dream, and isn’t going to let anyone get in the way of reaching it! I work for what I want, like Tiana, and don’t just wait around for things to happen! Yes, all our dreams can come true… but we gotta starting “doing” more to see them become a reality! Oh, and I love that she's an entrepreneur!

What was your childhood dream?

To perform at Disney and to be the singing voice of a Disney character. The first one has come true and I’m still believing the second will happen one day. Know anyone that can make that happen?

Favorite Vacation Spot:

Disney! Which one? All of them!

Biggest Challenge:

Overcoming my fear of success and making money. I had a hard time believing that I could help people and be paid for it. To learn more about my journey, watch my interview with Ontraport CEO Landon Ray

When you’re having a “down” day, how do you stay motivated?

I listen to music. Music has a way of making me feel better and helping me calm down and think logically. Also, when she’s not in school, I call my niece. It’s pretty amazing to see the world through the eyes of a child. She reminds me to keep it simple and to have fun and play. Oh, and I also read!

When you’re not working, where can we find ya?

You can most likely find me at the Corner Bakery, a Disney theme park, or a local coffee or wine bar. I like to spend time at home, so some nights you’ll find me at home with a glass of wine and a good book.

Someone who changed the course of your business?

Rick Frishman, the Founder of Author 101 University and Publisher of Morgan James Publishing. If you’ve had a chance to read my book, Relationships Raise Money: A Guide to Corporate Sponsorship, it’s because Rick challenged me to write a book. I met him at an event and he knew I was teaching sponsorship for non-profits and asked if I’d ever thought about writing a book on corporate sponsorship to teach authors and speakers how to get sponsored. I took the challenge and wrote the book! Rick invited me to teach sponsorship for authors on his Author 101 University stage, and that’s what led to the creation of Sponsorship Boot Camp and The Sponsorship Roadmap.

How’d you get started online?

Very slowly. No, seriously. I had created content for an online course, but wasn’t having much luck getting it online. Here I was with all this content that I wanted to get into the world, but didn’t know where to start. Enter Internet Marketing Multi-Millionaire and my (now) personal mentor, Tom Antion. Tom had created a WordPress E-Course that taught me to build my first website. From there I joined Tom’s Internet Marketing Mentee program and went through his course at The Internet Marketing Training Center. Since then I’ve launched online courses, started to deliver online sponsorship training, produced numerous webinars and created an online business. Tom taught me how to teach sponsorship for authors and speakers online. It’s because of Tom that I offer sponsorship training online so that I can teach more people how to get sponsors.

The best part of waking up is….

Knowing that I have one more day to help my clients and students create, dream, implement, and change the world!
